Yarmouk University is represented now through the Faculty of Medicine in Jordanian board exam committtees of many medical specialties. The Jordanian board exam which is organised by Jordan Medical Council is a prerequisite to practice the specialty in Jordan and many other countries. Candidates apply to it after finishing the years required for training in the specialty.
Faculty of Medicine is represented in five specialty committees as follows:
- Prof. Wisam Shihadeh, Dean. in the Ophthalmology commitee
-Dr. Hussam Barakat in Gastroenterology and Hepatology committee
-Dr. Mohammad Akram Awwad in Orthopedic Surgery committee
-Dr. Khalid Seetan in Dermatology committee
-Dr. Nisreen Bataineh in Pathology committee
It's worth noting that Jordanian board exam and Jordan Medical Council certificate in all specialties are well respected and recognized to practice medicine not only in Jordan but in many neighboring countries. A good number of candidates from Arab countries apply to those exams every time it is held.
Dr. Hasan Al Balas the "Ear, Nose and Throat- ENT" surgeon and the assistant professor in the Faculty of Medicine- Yarmouk University has performed the first operation of ENT endoscopy in Princess Basma Teaching hospital after the administration of the hospital added this new equipment to the ENT operation room.
The manager of Princess Basma hospital, Dr. Mohammad Bani Yaseen praised this achievement as it is " the first time such operation is done in the hospital in this field after this scope was brought to service which will contribute to alleviate the suffering of the patients and help in their recovery".
This operation is one of the results of the cooperation agreement between the ministry of health in Jordan and Yarmouk university represented by the faculty of Medicine.

The Faculty of Medicine condoles the family of our beloved lost student as well as his friends and colleagues.
May Allah give them all the patience and the peace after this sad loss.
Despite of their first time participation in the national medical competition supervised by the Jordan Medical Association, Faculty of Medicine @ Yarmouk University students represented by the students Abrar Ramadan (6th yr student), Ahmad Al Omari ( 5th yr student) and Maria Obeidat ( 4th yr student) shined in the 5th copy of this competition held on Saturday February 1st, 2020. The team lead the race through the first step onward and till the last question. They managed to rank the third among all medical schools of Jordan ( total of six universities) with so close comparable grades with the first two teams.
The team was the center of attention of the attendees and its performance was highly appreciated by the members of the organizing committee.
The 12th international conference of the Jordanian Orthopedic Surgeons society was held between October 28th, 2019 and November 2nd, 2019 under the patronage of Her Highness Princess Basma Bint Talal .
Dr. Salah Daradkeh the orthopedic surgeon and the assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences , Faculty of Medicine @ Yarmouk University participated by an important presentation under the title of ( Safety of Osseo integrated implants for transfemoral amputees), a lecture gained special interest due to the modern technology used internationally.
The conference was attended by the orthopedic staff in the faculty of medicine and number of our medical students.
Academy of Laureate held a medical day in collaboration with Faculty of Medicine @ Yarmouk University on Saturday Nov. 30th, 2019. This activity was supervised by Dr. Waleed Al-Momani who talked in the opening ceremony of the day stressing on the importance of the role that our faculty of medicine plays in community service by building bridges among the different sectors of the community for the benefit of the Jordanian citizen.
This activity was effectively shared by many of the faculty staff ; Dr. Hasan Al Balas, Dr. Sameer Al Balas and the dentist Dr. Shaher Daradkeh as well as a group of medical students from all levels.
The medical day included physical examination of many cases and medical awareness lectures like " Influenza" presented by Dr. Hasan Al Balas and "Contact lenses " presented by the student Luay Abu Ismael of the 5th year batch.
In addition to the lectures, the medical students shared in giving advises to the visitors about the importance of hygiene especially hand washing to control infection and some diet advises and precautions, they also measured blood pressure and blood sugar glucocheck for interested visitors.
The activity included the participation of Sewar pharmacy by presenting many medications and food supplements by free.
The administration of Laureate academy thanked Yarmouk University represented by the faculty of medicine for its support to let this medical day succeed. It presented at the end of the day the certificates and shield for the participants.
The combined team of Faculty of Medicine& Hijjawi engineering ranked second in the university Basketball League after qualifying to the final match. The team won the semi final match against the Chinese students team. The final match took place on Thursday Dec. 12th, 2019 between our team and the faculty of sports team in the university Gym. hall.
The match was full of enthusiasm and parity between the two teams, Medicine-Hijjawi team was leading the match till the end of the third quarter thanks to the 3rd year medical student "Mahmoud Shawkat Abouini" who finished the match with personal points of 27, but the Faculty of sports team gnashed its teeth in the last quarter and turned the result in the last few minutes and won over our team by 60-54. It is worth mentioning that this is the first season for Faculty of medicine to participate in this annual league.
The staff members are Dr. Muaweya Khatabeh, Dr. Reema Karasneh, Dr. Zaid Al Ta'any and Dr. Hiba Al Zoubi.
The workshop was held during "the 4th international conference of research ethics in Jordan" which was opened in Jordan university of science and Technology under the care of Faculty of pharmacy @ JUST on Nov. 5th, 2019.
