Under the patronage of Prof. Khaldoun Bashaireh , the Dean of Faculty of Medicine/YU an introductory meeting about the elective clinical training programs and residency programs offered at Cleveland Hospital Abu Dhabi in line with the study plan for the sixth year, in which the Head of the Breast Oncology Department in Cleveland Clinic –Abu Dhabi, Dr. Ahmed Matalqa, the consultant in oncology and breast surgery, lectured infront of the medical students and the teaching staff for the purpose of opening a door to attract medical students for elective clinical training and residency programs in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. The meeting took place on Tuesday, March 15th, 2022.
At the start of the meeting, the Dean welcomed Dr. Ahmad Matalqah in the Faculty of Medicine/YU campus. He appreciated his initiative to open the field of medical training courses before graduation as elective courses and post graduation as residency and other training programs.
Dr. Matalqah gave an interesting scientific lecture about the new techniques in breast cancer surgery. then he talked about the available programs for medical students and newly graduates and how to apply to them.
Dr. Ahmad Matalqah is the head of breast oncology department in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, and an associate professor in Khalifa University. He got his subspecialty degree in oncology surgery from Toronto University- Canada

Aiming at the development of the academic and professional performance of the teaching staff of Faculty of Medicine; Yarmouk University and its Faculty of Medicine hosted a scientific meeting under the patronage of the president of Yarmouk University Prof. Islam Massad and the Dean of Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Khaldoun Bashaireh on Wednesday March 9th, 2022. The guest and the lecturer in this meeting was Dr. Muna Al-Shaikh, the head of medical education department in Imam Abdul-Rahman Bin Faisal university, and the vice president of the Saudi Society of medical education.
The meeting started with a short speech of the Dean , who thanked the president, and welcomed Dr.Muna Al-Shaikh and the audience and presented the president to give his speech.
Prof. Islam Massad in his turn welcomed the guest and pointed to her experience in the field of medical education and thanked her for her enthusiasm to give the faculty a fundemental part of her experience. Dr. Massad stressed on the importance of the new methods of medical education to get the excellence of our faculty of medicine to get distinguished among faculties of medicine in Jordan and the region especially the ones which preceeded us by decades. He added, that this competition is for the benifit of the new generations of doctors and excellence of medical education and health system.
Then Dr. Al-Shaikh started her interactive lecture about planning curriculums , program learning objectives , outcomes and how to evaluate the process of teaching and the performance of medical students. The guest answered the questions of faculty members and listened to suggestions, concerns and the aspirations of the teaching staff in the faculty.
Dr. Muna Al-Shaik received the shield of Yarmouk Universuty for her special work in medical education and for expressing her willingness to help our faculty of medicine in this field.
The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Khaldoon Bashaireh, discussed with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Suez Canal University in the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr. Ahmed El-Sakka, in the presence of the Head of the Medical Education Department at Suez Canal University, Dr. Wagdy Talaat, ways to enhance academic cooperation, which will reflect positively on the level of education medical in Faculty of Medicine.
Dr. Al-Sakka and Dr. Talat presented before Dr. Al-Bashaireh the work of the Medical Education Department, as one of the departments of the Faculty of Medicine at Suez Canal University, and its role in keeping pace with recent developments in medical education and developing medical curricula and assessment tools, especially since this department at Suez Canal University is considered the first at the level of Arab universities, as it is the first in terms of awarding a master's degree in cooperation with the Dutch University of Maastricht.
On a related level, Al-Bashaireh participated in the first international conference at the level of the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt in medical education, a conference attended by many deans of medical faculties and presidents of Egyptian universities and some Arab Gulf countries, where the latest methods in medical education were presented. Many international experts from United States of America and Arabic region discussed the latest methods and scientific experiences in the field of medical education.
Prof. Al-Bashaireh said that, "based on the vision and philosophy of Yarmouk University, Faculty of Medicine is preparing to build many relationships and networking with a number of Arab and international universities for the purpose of moving forward in developing its academic career and keeping pace with recent developments in light of the many activities that it organized inside the campus , such as the workshop sponsored by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research regarding the future of medical education in Jordan, and hosting the Vice President of the Saudi Association for Medical Education, and lately hosting the Head of Breast Cancer Department at Cleveland Hospital Abu Dhabi".

Overview of electives , observership and residency courses in Cleveland clinic Abu Dhabi
Under the patronage of the Dean of Faculty of Medicine/YU Prof. Khaldoun Bashaireh, the initiative named (Yarmouk Soul) was launched on Tuesday March 8th, 2022. This initiative is concerned about the psycological health of the YU society, this step comes in the context of strengthening the role of Faculty of Medicine/YU towards the local community and the community inside the university borders.
Prof. Bashaireh said in a speech in the launch ceremony that 'the objective of this initiative is to let the university be a safe place for psycological heath and the psycological well being for every member in this community ( students, academic staff members and administrative members). This is intended to get by planning projects for for awareness, prevention of psycological problems and tratment of any disorder measured or happened'.
Dr. Bashaireh followed: " because of the importance of the psychological well being, this initiative will be a continuous process that will include many programs that will cover any member under the university umbrella". He added: This initiative will take in consideration many pathological phenomena like stress . depression , phobias, anxity and drug abuse. And it will include many preventive and curative programs.
Dr. Adam Sqour , the staff member in Faculty of Medicine in Psychiatry and the supervisor of this initiative said: " The importance of psycological care and moving forward towards people is to prevent any psycological problem from getting worse, as preventing these problems from being diseases is essential before affected ones are pushed into the psychiatry clinics to get treatment"
Dr. Sqour stressed on the importance of cooperation between students in general and the members of the initiative to let this mission succeed. Students will form groups volunteering to get the benift and help others in achieving the psycological well being of the individuals and the university community.
The Launch of the initiative was attended by many of the faculty staff in Faculty of Medicine and students from the faculty and other faculties.
'Wateen team' the students team for debates in Faculty of Medicine/YU organised the second debate in the faculty on Sunday March 27th, 2022. The title of the debate was ( keto diet , is it a safe way to lose weight or it has a dark side). This debate was attended by the vice dean of Faculty of Medicine Prof. Zain Alabideen Abdullah and the Dean of students affairs Prof. Mohammad Thiabat and a number of teaching staff in the faculty and an audience from the students and the local society.
Six students from Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy/ YU participated in this debate which was concerned about the Keto diet ,. The pro tean who are pro Keto diet were the students; Abdul-Hakam Allababneh, Rand Ibrahim and Hanaa' Khreisat. The ( Keto-against team) was consistent of the stuidents; Marah Hajras, Rinad Al-Faleh and Alla' Shawaqfeh.
The debate was tied at the end according to the Jury committtee consisted of Dr. Rima Karasneh and Dr. Ola Sodah from Basic Medical Sciences Deprtment (BMS) in Faculty of Medicine and the guest doctor from Faculty of physical education Dr. Ahmad Bataineh. The joury committee then handed over the particpants with the certificates of partricipation and the gifts.
