Elective Training Program

Elective Training Program

elective1

The elective training program is a requirement in the curriculum of MD. program in FM/YU, It is a two-month rotation during the sixth year where the student chooses the place of her/his training. It is supported by the Faculty of Medicine @YU for elective training in high-level medical institutions inside and outside Jordan through bilateral agreements concluded by FM/YU  with medical and academic bodies inside Jordan and with the Association of American Medical Colleges AAMC, from which the (Visiting Students Learning Opportunities -VSLO) program emerges. The Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University is now participating in this program as a VSLO home institution that enables students to connect with more than 300 VSLO host institutions across the United States and the world via a mechanism that will be explained on this page.

The duration of the elective international training ranges from one to two months. FM/YU student is required to train for a period of two months. It is not a must to have the whole period in one center, provided that the training be in one center for at least one month.

Students are advised to start the registration procedures from the fourth year of medical school studies in order to perfectly use the time to arrange between her/him and the Faculty at the appropriate rotation during the sixth year, as there are five consecutive courses during this year. In order for the student to obtain the visa from the relevant embassy after completing the papers at the proper time, to start on time as prescheduled with the Faculty deanship, so no confusion in the sixth year schedule will happen. The student then will have the opportunity to participate in her/his elective training and take advantage of this opportunity to develop his scientific horizons and improve her/ his skill level and gain new experiences in a different teaching system and a different medical environment that adds to her/his medical thought and accumulated experience

Fifth: The student then searches for the elective training opportunity that suits him among hundreds of universities and hospitals registered in the program as host institutions, according to her/his aspirations and qualifications.
