Under the auspices of the President of Yarmouk University, a dialogue session was organized by the Faculty of Medicine on Thursday Nov. 24th, 2022 for faculty members from the various faculties of the university on multi-disciplinary research. The Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Mowaffaq Al-Amoush attended on behalf of the President in the presence of the Vice President for Planning, Development, Scientific Research and Quality Affairs, Prof. Samer Samarah.

Prof. Al-Amoush gave a speech welcomed the audience and stressed on the chances and the mechanisms of performing multi-disciplinary research between the medical faculties and the other faculties in the university, for the sake of acheiving the vision of Yarmouk University and its mission. A creative scientific research that contributes to the community service and the universal benifit.

Prof. Samer Samarah then talked about the importance of publishing scientific research in high impact Scopus indexed journals and other significant journals , the output of which will put our university in better position in the recognized international scales of universities in the globe. Multidisciplinary research will strengthen the level of research as more ideas could be dealt with and better understanding of all aspects of the research is gained. 

Prof, Manar Al-Lawama , the Dean of Faculty of Medicine welcomed the distinguished guests and participants , She added, that this discussion comes to build cooperation bridges among the different faculties ( medical and non medical like engineering, sciences, arts, humanetarian specialties and others) in the university especially the ones that deal with the healeh of the person and the society. The aim of this session is to discover the areas of research interest of the faculty members in Faculty of Medicine and other faculties and to map the intersected areas of interest among our academic fellows to start with in many research lines that will lead eventually to publishing a good number of multi-disciplinary researches that could be applied for the sake of the community benifit.

Then All the deans and faculty members that attended the session talked about their research interests and aspirations to involve some other specialties in the research lines that they look for in the future.   

A database about the research interests of YU faculty members and their proposed projects will be available soon to acquaint the researchers of their fellows from other schools in the university will be available in the very near future to start to harvest the crop that this session planted.

Under the auspices of Prof. Manar Al-Lawama, the Dean of Faculty of Medicine, The FM/YU hosts the German Cultural institute (Goethe-Institut Jordan) to present an introductory session on the requirements of specializtion and work in Germany. The target group is our medical students in the clinical years and the newly graduates. The event will be in the Blue Auditorium in FM/YU campus on Thursday, Nov. 17th, 2022 from 13:30 till 15:30.

The deanship urges our clinical students and graduates to attend this session which is one episode in a series planned to open new horizons for their professional future.

As part of the community service activities, the Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University has sent a delegation of a number of faculty members; doctors with different specializations and a number of students of the Faculty of Medicine-YU over the past days to participate in health care activities on the campus of the Model School of Yarmouk University. These activities were under the supervision of the school principal, Dr. Jabr Al-Khatib And the director of the first basic stage, Mrs. Haifa Al-Hamouri, and the director of the second basic stage, Dr. Faten Al-Momani.

The Deanship of the Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University organized a training course for faculty members, in which a number of faculty members from the faculties of medicine and pharmacy participated, on Wednesday, 2/11/2022, in the Red auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine.

The training was carried out by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Manar Al-Lawama, who indicated at the beginning of the training that this course will be the start of a number of upcoming training courses, which will target faculty members in all areas necessary to develop their skills to serve the educational process and advance the college locally and globally.

Dr. Al-Lawama talked about the types of assessments used to evaluate students, the objectives of these assessments related to measuring the achievement of the required learning outcomes at the university and the learning outcomes of the program PLO’s and the course CLOs, in addition to evaluating and updating the mechanisms and methods of teaching used, highlighting the difficulties students face in exams and the level of improvement in their performance, measuring the differences between them and motivating them all.

Dr. Al-Lawama referred to the areas to evaluate our medical students by through exams and assessments implemented, which are knowledge, skills and attitudes, and stressed the importance of Miller's Pyramid in ensuring students' achievement of the required competencies, and Bloom's Taxonomy pyramid.

Dr. Al-Lawama explained the mechanisms of preparing for the exam, and ways to ensure the achievement of (Validity and Reliability), and improve them through preparing the appropriate blueprinting scheme that is consistent with the objectives and competencies of the required program.

On the other hand, Dr. Al-Lawama presented and clarified examples of MCQs exams, question stem writing standards and good question options (answers’ choices) that achieve the desired goals, limit as much as possible confusion of students’ during exam that could influence their answers, and ensure that questions and options are clear and appropriate for the varying levels of students all at a time. It also ensures that the student has acquired the information, skills and competencies necessary to prepare future doctors.

At the end of thge workshop, the faculty members thanked Dr. Al-Lawama for the rich training workshop, with all the valuable information they got. Effective positive discussion followed , The discussion was between the lecturer and the participants and among the participants.

Under the auspices of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University, Prof. Manar Al-Lawama, opened one of the activities of the introductory session for students of the Faculty of Medicine, which was organized by Yarmouk University on Thursday Nov. 17^th, 2022, in cooperation with the Jordanian Ministry of Labor, the German Employment Agency, the German Cultural Institute (Goethe), and the German Cultural Exchange Service (DAAD).

The session aimed to familiarize students with the requirements for residency and work in Germany, in addition to learning the German language, and helping them understand the needs and requirements of the German labor market.

 In her turn, Prof. Dr. Al-Lawama welcomed Ms. Laura Hartz, Director of the German Cultural Institute (Goethe) and the accompanying delegation, and the attendance of faculty members and students. She emphasized the college's interest in supporting students and networking them with various local and international bodies, and praised the distinguished level of medical graduates in Jordanian universities, which let them be a center of attention of many countries to attract them as specialized workers to study or work. 

The lecturers gave a full explanation of the requirements for residency and work in Germany, such as the conditions and mechanism for obtaining a visa, preparing the required official documents and papers, equivalence of certificates, and others. The lecturers emphasized the importance of learning the German language, and they introduced the Goethe Institute as a cultural institute for teaching the German language, and the language courses it offers, qualifying courses to prepare for exams, language levels and the time period that students need to learn the German language.

 The lecturers also pointed out the importance of preparing students for integration and living in Germany, and getting acquainted with German culture and ways of integration, the difficulties and challenges they may face, and the differences in the working methods of medical personnel between Jordan and Germany. On the other hand, the lecturers emphasized the open opportunities for graduates of Jordanian medical schools to work in Germany, or to complete their postgraduate studies.

 At the end of the session, the delegation expressed its thanks and gratitude for the warm welcome from Yarmouk University, and from the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Allawama, and their happiness with the distinguished attendance of students and their interest, interventions and interaction, looking forward to more cooperation for the sake of attracting experts and graduate students to work and study in Germany and to build Jordanian-German partnerships.
