The Deanship of the Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University organized a training course for faculty members, in which a number of faculty members from the faculties of medicine and pharmacy participated, on Wednesday, 2/11/2022, in the Red auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine.
The training was carried out by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Manar Al-Lawama, who indicated at the beginning of the training that this course will be the start of a number of upcoming training courses, which will target faculty members in all areas necessary to develop their skills to serve the educational process and advance the college locally and globally.
Dr. Al-Lawama talked about the types of assessments used to evaluate students, the objectives of these assessments related to measuring the achievement of the required learning outcomes at the university and the learning outcomes of the program PLO’s and the course CLOs, in addition to evaluating and updating the mechanisms and methods of teaching used, highlighting the difficulties students face in exams and the level of improvement in their performance, measuring the differences between them and motivating them all.
Dr. Al-Lawama referred to the areas to evaluate our medical students by through exams and assessments implemented, which are knowledge, skills and attitudes, and stressed the importance of Miller's Pyramid in ensuring students' achievement of the required competencies, and Bloom's Taxonomy pyramid.
Dr. Al-Lawama explained the mechanisms of preparing for the exam, and ways to ensure the achievement of (Validity and Reliability), and improve them through preparing the appropriate blueprinting scheme that is consistent with the objectives and competencies of the required program.
On the other hand, Dr. Al-Lawama presented and clarified examples of MCQs exams, question stem writing standards and good question options (answers’ choices) that achieve the desired goals, limit as much as possible confusion of students’ during exam that could influence their answers, and ensure that questions and options are clear and appropriate for the varying levels of students all at a time. It also ensures that the student has acquired the information, skills and competencies necessary to prepare future doctors.
At the end of thge workshop, the faculty members thanked Dr. Al-Lawama for the rich training workshop, with all the valuable information they got. Effective positive discussion followed , The discussion was between the lecturer and the participants and among the participants.
