The Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University, under the patronage of Dean Dr. Jamana Al-Suleiman, held an introductory session for sixth-year students
about the University Proficiency Exam, in cooperation with the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Center.
The session was presented by Dr. Asmaa Al-Muneis, who discussed the importance and components of the exam and addressed students' inquiries.
This session is part of the Faculty’s efforts to support graduating students and enhance their academic and professional readiness.
The Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University witnessed a distinguished event with the inauguration of the "International Conference on Simulation in Medical Education," held under the patronage of Senator Dr. Yassin Al-Hasban, Chairman of the Senate Health, Environment, and Population Committee. The event was attended by the University President, Dr. Islam Massad, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Dr. Jumana Al-Suleiman, along with several senators, parliament members, deans of medical faculties from Jordanian universities, and a group of experts and academics from Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Portugal, and Saudi Arabia.
In his speech, Dr. Al-Hasban emphasized that medical simulation has become one of the most important pillars for advancing medical education, providing a safe and interactive environment that enables trainees to acquire clinical skills and make critical decisions without exposing patients to risk. He pointed out that investing in advanced medical education is an investment in the future, reflecting Jordan’s commitment under its Hashemite leadership to modernize healthcare and education sectors.
Dr. Massad, in turn, highlighted that organizing this international conference reflects Yarmouk University’s deep commitment to developing medical education. He stressed that simulation is now an essential component of clinical training, significantly enhancing the competence of graduates and the quality of healthcare services. He added that the conference offers a vital platform for exchanging expertise and building strategic local and international partnerships.
Meanwhile, MP Dr. Shahir Al-Shatnawi stated that integrating simulation into medical curricula is a strategic step to improve graduate readiness and raise the standards of healthcare quality and safety. He affirmed the Parliamentary Health Committee's support for educational and legislative initiatives that foster this advancement.
Dr. Al-Suleiman noted that the conference reflects Yarmouk’s vision for academic leadership and its commitment to keeping pace with global developments. She emphasized that simulation is no longer an educational luxury but an essential foundation for preparing competent medical professionals capable of confidently tackling the challenges of the profession. She expressed the university's ambition to establish a permanent scientific platform to promote medical excellence across the region.
The conference featured a series of specialized lectures and workshops. Dr. Pierre Ingrassia from the European Society for Simulation delivered a keynote lecture on the potential of artificial intelligence in developing medical simulation practices. Discussion sessions addressed the future challenges of simulation-based education in the Arab world, modern curriculum tools, and experiences from simulation laboratories.
The Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University expressed its gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the conference, including the organizational and scientific committees, the public relations team, and supporting institutions, while appreciating the valuable contributions of the distinguished guests and experts who enriched the conference with their knowledge and expertise.
Dr. Ramada Khasawneh, Dr. Ejlal Abu Al-Rub, Dr. Fatimah Almahasneh, Dr. Ayman Al-Zoubi, Ms. Rawan Al-Mazari and medical students Huthaifa Magableh, Mohammad Mazari, Haitham Shlool and Ahmad Sanajleh from the Faculty of Medicine – Yarmouk University received a certificate of appreciation from Wiley Publishing for their scientific paper, "Addressing the impact of high glucose microenvironment on the immunosuppressive characteristics of human mesenchymal stem cells," which has been recognized as a top-cited article in 2023 in IUBMB Life.
IUBMB Life is a prestigious scientific journal, ranked Q1 in Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology (IF 3.7) and it is affiliated with the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
The research team's study examines the effect of high-glucose microenvironment on mesenchymal stem cells, which contributes to understanding the properties of these cells and improving their effectiveness in the treatment of certain diseases, such as diabetes mellitus.
The Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University has launched a scientific lecture series titled "Grand Round," aimed at enhancing scientific communication and the exchange of expertise among faculty members, students, and doctors from various specialties.
The first lecture was held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, under the title "Awareness about Congenital Heart Disease". It was presented by Dr. Ali Al-Halabi, Assistant Professor in the Pediatric Division. The lecture covered the definition of congenital heart diseases in children, the importance of early detection, diagnostic methods, and approaches to managing such cases.
These lectures are part of the faculty's plan to raise scientific and medical awareness, encourage academic dialogue, and promote knowledge exchange. The Grand Round series will continue regularly with the participation of a distinguished group of professors and specialists from the college staff.
In line with its pioneering and active role in advancing medical education, and believing in the importance of keeping up with the latest teaching methods, including the use of simulation, the Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University organized, on the sidelines of the International Conference on Simulation in Medical Education (ICSME), two specialized training workshops on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
The first workshop was titled: "Fundamentals of Simulation in Medical Education," presented by Dr. Marc Lazarovici, Director of the Emergency Medicine Simulation Center at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (LMU Munich), Germany.
The second workshop was titled: "Applications of Simulation in Medical Education," presented by Professor Abdulaziz Bokker, a global expert in simulation and Medical Director of King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Saudi Arabia, and Dr. Bara'a Tayeb, Director of the Simulation Center at King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia.
The workshops were held at the Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University, with wide participation from faculty and technical staff from various public and private medical schools in Jordan.
The workshops saw a great deal of interaction and a warm welcome from the attendees, as they provided unique scientific value and high practical benefit.
The participants expressed their deep appreciation for the efforts of the Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University, wishing it continued progress and excellence, and the continued organization of such meaningful scientific events.
On behalf of the President of Yarmouk University, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mousa Rababah, inaugurated the Scientific and Career Day and Alumni Gathering at the Faculty of Medicine, held this year under the theme: “The Physician-Researcher: Collaboration, Innovation, Impact.” The event brought together students, graduates, faculty members, and partners from the healthcare sector.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Rababah expressed the university’s pride in the Faculty of Medicine, describing it as a national academic beacon that shapes the future of healthcare in Jordan. He emphasized that the college is not merely an educational institution, but an ongoing success story producing physicians who carry a noble humanitarian mission. He highlighted the importance of scientific research, innovation, and linking theory to clinical practice, especially amid rapid medical advancements and global health challenges. Dr. Rababah also noted that the university continues to progress confidently toward international recognition through its commitment to transparency, excellence, and innovation, supported by its distinguished faculty and students.
For her part, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Jumana Al-Suleiman, expressed pride in the students and their projects, noting that this scientific day celebrates creativity, critical thinking, and the spirit of exploration. She stressed that scientific research is no longer a luxury but an essential component of a successful medical career.
Dr. Zaidoun Al-Sharman, Director of Princess Rahma Teaching Hospital and representative of partner hospitals, affirmed that the Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University continues to distinguish itself with confidence. He stated that the research presented during the event strengthens cooperation between the college and teaching hospitals, helping refine students’ skills and preparing them for excellence and innovation.
Student Yara Kasasbeh delivered a speech on behalf of graduating students, expressing that their capstone projects reflected their passion and aspirations. She emphasized that these projects mark just the beginning of deeper research contributions and extended her gratitude to the faculty for their guidance and support.
The event featured a scientific poster exhibition showcasing students’ research, in addition to a presentation on the joint Erasmus project with medical faculties in Jordanian universities, funded by the European Union and aimed at developing medical curricula. The day also included five oral presentations covering diverse medical topics, such as: the psychological impact of the war on Gaza using the IES-R scale, prediction of morphological abnormalities and clinical criteria in hematologic malignancies in intensive care units, kidney stone treatment approaches, myelofibrosis, and gestational anemia with postpartum depression.
The Faculty of Medicine concluded the event by reaffirming its commitment to strengthening connections between students, graduates, and the healthcare sector, while continuing its mission to prepare a new generation of highly skilled and research-oriented physicians.
Under the patronage of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Jamana Al-Sulaiman, and initiated by Pediatric Students Interest Group (PsIG) under the supervision of Dr. Aseel Gharaibeh, an awareness campaign was held at Princess Rahma Pediatric Hospital on Sunday, April 20, 2025. The campaign aimed to raise mothers' awareness about the importance of giving vitamin D to newborns and its role in reducing cases of rickets in children.
The campaign was a success, as it directly engaged with the local community and distributed printed leaflets to present the information in a simplified manner.
The Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University has received a research fund from the Scientific Research and Innovation Support Fund as part of the 2024 Special Session on “Combating Drugs and Their Effects on Society”.
Dr. Ayman Al-Zoubi and Dr. Ejlal Abu Al-Rub, from the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, won a grant worth 23,000 JDs to support a research project titled "Synthetic Cannabinoids and the Heart Health: An Epidemiological and Mechanistic Insights into Synthetic Cannabinoids-Related Heart Toxicity”. This research aims to clarify the molecular mechanisms that lead to synthetic cannabinoid toxicity on myocardium, which will contribute to treating the adverse effects of drug abuse and combating the impact of this phenomenon on the mental and physical health of individuals.
The Faculty of Medicine at Yarmouk University participated in the training workshop of the Erasmus project "Cap4Preceptors," which was held at the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal, over the course of four days. The workshop included lectures delivered by faculty members from medical schools at Jordanian universities and from the University of Minho in Portugal.
This European Union-funded project aims to establish a training program designed to develop the teaching skills of clinical instructors and faculty members at medical schools in Jordanian universities. The project involves the faculties of medicine at the six public Jordanian universities, the University of Minho in Portugal, and the University of Patras in Greece.
To be recognized locally, regionally and globally for excellence in medical education, research and contributions to patient care and community services.
