Under the auspices of the Dean of Faculty of Medicine Dr. Khaldoon Bashaireh; an introductory lecture was held in the Faculty of Medicine campus (the Red Auditorium), the lecture’s subject was about “the Huda program for health data analysis” of the Health Computing Company (Hakeem), which links all government health care institutions, Royal Services Hospitals and the King Hussein Cancer Center. The lecture was presented by Eng. Lama Al Karmi, who is responsible for the Huda Program, on behalf of Eng. Omar Ibrahim Ayesh, CEO of Hakeem Company.
Engineer Lama explained the nature of the huge health data stored on the system, which includes more than 195 health facilities and contains more than 7 million electronic medical files. As explained by the lecturer. She also talked about the mechanisms of collecting, storing, processing and authorizing data for the purposes of scientific research, allowing use of it to improve health care and decision-making. The company provides this huge data to all academics and researchers from all interested sectors upon request.
A number of faculty members in the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, Computer Engineering and Computer Sciences and medical students attended this lecture due to its importance and its intersection with different disciplines in light of the tremendous technological development and the applications of artificial intelligence in the field of medicine and health care, as Jordan is one of the pioneer countries in computing health data in the region, which opens wide prospects for research and development.
This lecture is a qualitative addition to the community medicine course, coordinated by Dr. Ola Soudah and Dr. Reema Karasneh, the two organizers of the course, to provide an opportunity for medical students at Yarmouk University to learn about the applied side of scientific research using databases.
