Department of Basic Medical Sciences serves medical students by educating them some of the important basic subjects that build their knowledge to prepare them for the clinical education in the second half of their medical education journey. The specialties under the umbrella of this department are: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Histology and Pharmacology. The staff in the department include skilled and distinguished teachers who are certified by prestigious international universities. Other than teaching they are active in research work, self and institutional development, supervise students' non academic activities , in addition to networking with national and international universities in academic and research fields.
 
The main aim of our department is to enrich the knowledge of our students by basic medical sciences by theoretical lectures and applied practical training in the laboratories. This integrated approach is done by integrated body systems courses, where all specialties cooperate together to body systems one by one and let the student understand the relation among all specialties to comprehend the system function.
 
The system courses given in the department are: Respiratory system, Cardiovascular system, Lymphatic system, Endocrine system,  Musculo-skeletal system Central and Peripheral nervous system and Urogenital system.
 
The department includes well equipped teaching halls with audio-video new systems and teaching and research labs with many modern teaching facilities and equipment like for example the  virtual dissection table (Anatomage) and other body simulation objects, in an effort to provide the best basic medical knowledge for our students in the first three years of their medical studies.
 
The Laboratories of  the department are:
- Anatomy Lab
- Physiology Lab
