In the light of the Faculty of Medicine vision to upscale scientific research, the Scientific Research Office held a Webinar on “Clinical Trial Designs and Protocol Development” in 3-3-2024. Our guest speaker was Dr. Ahmed Obeidat MD, PhD in Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis, Department of Neurology, The Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Obeidat is the principal investigator on over 20 therapeutic clinical trials in MS and related disorders. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts. Medscape, MDedge, Neurology Live, and several other media outlets have featured Dr. Obeidat’s research. He spoke about the importance of clinical trials in advancing medical practices and finding innovative treatments for patients.
The Webinar was an overview of clinical trial phases & designs, protocol components & the importance of protocol registration, and the need for personalized medicine. Many faculty members from both the clinical sciences department and the basic science department attended the Webinar along with medical students. Dr. Obeidats shared his expertise in the domain and pitfalls in trial results implementation in medical practices without looking at the trial quality and appraise the results critically. The webinar ended with a Fruitful discussion about challenges that may face researchers in conducting clinical trials.
